Since the second week in August, the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby has had a new chief nursing officer in place.

Susan Price is the new CNO, coming from CHI St. Alexius in Dickinson. At CHI Price served as the Emergency Services director, Intensive Care Unit director, and oversaw outpatient infusion services.

“Anywhere that I work I’m always about wanting to take care of the community,” said Price. “And I don’t actually have to be a native from Rugby to want to make sure that the community, people that have been here their whole life, get the care that they deserve.”

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pa., Price became a nurse in 1996, getting her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh.

Price said there was a need for nurses when she went to nursing school, however the program she entered into was competitive.

“I like to believe I’m a little competitive also,” said Price.

She later received a Master’s in nursing administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

As CNO, Price’s duties include overseeing different areas of HAMC; making sure “we’re being a good liaison” for both nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants; and making sure teamwork, customer service and community needs are provided for.
