Four injured in two-vehicle crash near Rugby
A Rugby man, a Knox woman and two children were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred seven miles east of Rugby Monday morning.
According to the N.D. Highway Patrol, a 2001 Chevrolet Impala — driven by 25-year-old Kayla Klein, of Knox, who had two children ages 3 and 1 with her — was driving eastbound on US Highway 2. The second vehicle, a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado — driven by 28-year-old Andrew Pfeifer, of Rugby — was northbound on 36th Ave NE.
The Silverado stopped at the stop sign and then entered the intersection in front of the Impala. Both vehicles collided.
The Silverado came to rest in the median. The Impala rolled, and came to rest on its roof on the eastbound side of Hwy 2. Both vehicles were totaled.
Klein and children had serious injuries and were transported by Rugby Ambulance to the Heart of America Medical Center. While the children were in car seats, Klein did not have safety restraints on at the time of the crash.
Pfeifer sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He has been charged with failure to yield at an intersection.
The crash remains under investigation by the N.D. Highway Patrol. Rugby Police and Fire departments and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department also were responding agencies to the crash.
