Rugby man injured in fireworks accident

A 41-year-old Rugby man was injured Wednesday evening in a fireworks accident.

At 7:47 p.m. Wednesday the Rugby Police Department was called to a residence in the 200 block of North Main Avenue where they found a man with burns and lacerations to his face and chest caused by shrapnel and a firework had exploded in his hand, causing serious injury. The victim’s name is being withheld at this time.

According to a press release from the department, it appeared the man was using fireworks “not according to the manufacturer recommendations”.

Both Rugby police and ambulance services responded to the incident. The victim was transported first to the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, and then to Trinity Medical Center for further care.
