Pierce County Fair has a good turnout this year

By Staff | Jul 6, 2018

The “Zipper” was one of several attractions at this year’s Pierce County Fair.

This year’s Pierce County Fair on June 28-July 1, turned out as nice as the weather did this year practically perfect. Well there was a few rough patches with the weather and with some fair events, but overall a great time was had by those that attended.

This year’s Friday night Steak Dinner for 400 people sold out before the closing at 7 p.m. There was steak and beans, and baked potatoes for only $5.00! The line went fast and so did the food.

The Fair board posted their thank yous on Facebook. Don Jelsing. president of the Pierce County Fair Board, extended his thanks to everyone. “The Pierce County Fair board would like to extend a huge thank you to everybody who was a part of making the Pierce County Fair in Rugby North Dakota a huge success again this year. Everything from sponsoring, to being a volunteer, being a fair participant, being on the fair board or just volunteering in any possible way. We thank you all from the Pierce County Fair board.”.

The fair had something for everyone. Many of the young 4Hers had Grand Champion winner ribbons including one that was entitled “Goats.” There were fun photographs, one with a little girl eating watermelon which took a blue ribbon, and one with the same little girl with her kitten, which took second place with a red ribbon. There was a very good presentation on coyotes, and many hand drawn pictures as well. Pierce County has some excellent artists whatever the medium.

The Lawnmower racing did not go off as expected but many will look forward to having them hopefully next year. Apparently there were some equipment issues, but most people reconciled themselves with some Fair food as consolation prize.
