Members of the FBLA team from Rugby are heading to Baltimore, Md., to compete in the National Academic Competition. The Panthers held a fundraiser Tuesday, May 22 for Jenna Wangler, Amber Schmaltz and Daniel Kearns, who qualified and will be attending this year’s Nationals in Baltimore, June 26 July 2.

Adviser Paola Trottier said, “FBLA bridges the gap between school and work for the students, and in order to qualify they have to extensively practice and compete, do fundraising and have a score in the top overall four of their expertise.”

At the FBLA academic conference, members convene to compete in leadership events, share their successes, and learn new ideas about shaping their career future through workshops and exhibits.

“In Publication Design, Jenna, and Amber will be attending. Rylee qualified but she will be at the Cheer tournament in Hawaii.” continued Trottier. “In Securities and Investments, Dan Kearns will complete. He qualified in another area also, but chose this one.”

The Rugby High School put on an “Olive Garden” like supper at the high school on Tuesday night to raise funds to send the students on the trip. The students helped out, Trottier oversaw the kitchen, and there was a good turnout even with the competition of the baseball team being in Region 5 play.

“The student needs to cover the cost of the trip which is between $1500 and $2000 each,” Trottier said. “This fundraiser means a lot to us and we appreciate the participation.”
