Museum opens season with kick-off party
The Prairie Village Museum has opened for the 2018 season.
The Museum will celebrate the opening of the 2018 season with a Kick-Off event from 11:00 a.m.-5:00p.m. on Sunday, May 20th, 2018. The Museum will host an afternoon barbecue, concert, and grand opening of the new exhibit WWI in Central North Dakota: From Ploughboys to Doughboys. The exhibit will be open for the entire 2018 season.
“2018 is going to be an awesome year at the Museum. We have a lot of new activities planned and wonderful WWI commemoration programming, along with all of our regular events we always have,” said Director Stephanie Steinke. “It’s especially exciting that we can debut a new exhibit, something that we’ve all worked really hard on, it’s a first for us to design, create and show off such a big exhibit”. Visitors can enjoy the exhibit, concert, and food while exploring the Prairie Village that aims to recreate a turn of the century railroad town.
The Kick-Off will start at 11:00a.m. with food served for lunch. A musical concert featuring a local choir and brass band performing WWI songs will start at 2:00p.m. All the performers are local Rugby area residents. Rugby local Micah Scott will debut original music as part of the program as well. Scott has set poems written by WWI soldiers to music.
“Micah has a true talent. These poems are interesting on their own, but they become haunting reflections of a soldier’s fears, angers, and humor when Micah brings them to life with his gravelly voiced renditions,” said Steinke.
Individuals interested in renewing or purchasing Geographical Center Historical Society memberships may do so at the Kick-Off. Memberships include season passes to the Prairie Village Museum and all museum events. Individual memberships are only $15.00 while family memberships are $30.00. The Museum is also available for events, including reunions, picnics, birthday parties, photo sessions, rv parking and camping, and group tours.
