Little Flower marathon surpasses $15K goal
Rugby’s Little Flower Catholic School held a bike and walk marathon last week east of Rugby on the Golf Course Road and trailway paths to raise funds for the school.
“Our goal was to raise $15,000 and we exceeded that amount, and are still accepting donations. We were very pleased with the turnout, and thank the public for their support.” said Rene Arnston who coordinated the event this year.
Students and staff rode their bikes, or walked the trail from 12:30 to 2:30 that afternoon. Many of the younger kids had to ride and walk because of the effort it took. The North Dakota wind did not help much either but the temperature was in the low 70s and sunny.
“Afterwards, we had an ice cream social and t-shirt signing party.” said Arnston. “The kids each had a logo t-shirt “Run for the Son” and after the marathon they took turns signing each other’s t-shirt.”
The event was a lesson in collaboration, with the older kids pushing their limits, and the younger ones learning they are accepted and a part of the school no matter what their physical level is Arnston said.
Older kids asked younger ones to sign their t-shirts, and they appeared proud to be able to do that. The event focused on sharing and supporting one another among the students, and among family members who walked along and community members who supported them.
The group exceeded their goal of $15,000, which came from community supporters. If anyone wants to contribute, the school is still accepting donations and pledges.
