Lions collect ‘new eyes’

The Rugby Lions Club has been collecting used eyeglasses for decades.

Thousands of glasses, like these shown with Rugby Lions Club members, have been gathered here in the Rugby community. The glasses are cleaned, sorted, and indexed by trained Lions at other locations. Volunteers of Lions and others take the glasses to Mexico or other countries in the world and the glasses are given to people who have never seen clearly in their lives.

This project allows these people to have productive lives because of their “new eyes” courtesy of all those people who donated their used eye glasses to local Lions clubs around the nation and world. The hopeful recipients stand in line for hours to obtain their glasses.

The residents of the Haaland Estates in Rugby assist the local club by sorting and packing the glasses for transfer to the next step in the operation.

The Rugby Lions Club thanks all those who have donated glasses at Music in the Park or in the collection boxes around Rugby during the year.
