Florida in the spring sunshine
Gabriella Beaver, her mother and brother, Gentry, jetted off to sunny Florida on April 7 for a Make a Wish vacation that included Walt Disney World and Seaworld, and Gabby’s favorite… miniature golf.
Gabriella Beaver “Gabby” to most was hosted by the Make A Wish Foundation earlier this spring and received a trip for her and her family to Florida. Gabby is losing her vision due to a medical condition.
The Make A Wish Foundation supports many pediatric medical cases by arranging a trip for the entire family for the chosen recipient. This year Gabby was hosted for a cake party by Randi Heisler, local Make a Wish representative who announced Gabby had been selected to receive the trip. Gabby was very excited and knew exactly where she wanted to go. Children can pick from a list of places to go, or if they have a very special place, they can request to go there also.
“I had a really good time. We went to some cool places, and I got my hair done at the beauty shop,” Gabby said between frequent giggles. “We went on a boat ride every day. And we had time each day to play my favorite thing… miniature golf. I met Cinderella the princess and we both wore tiaras and beautiful dresses!”
The Florida weather was a welcome relief from North Dakota’s cold spring, said Andrea Beaver, who is Gabby’s mother. “It was such a wonderful gift and we had six days of fun. That’s good because it has been a long couple of years going to medical treatment in Fargo. It’s been good to just go somewhere and not think about anything except fun.”
Another fun experience, her mother commented, was Gabby getting to pet a dolphin and a star fish.
“Yes I am tired of going to the doctor. Do you know I have had two brain surgeries?” asked Gabby very matter of factly. Gabby is six and half years old by her own definition. She is in Krystin Theil’s first grade class at Ely Elementary in Rugby where she very much likes learning new things. Reading is her favorite subject.
When asked what Gabby wanted to be when she grew up, she sighed, paused and said “I think a doctor, but maybe a dental hygenist.”
