JDA Director search yields 8 candidates

By Staff | Mar 30, 2018

On Tuesday, March 27 the Rugby Job Development Authority met and held its regular monthly meeting.

Tanner Johnson led the meeting and opened with a director’s report. Next there was a review of the open executive director position by Karin Fursather, who is in charge of the executive search committee. Eight candidates have applied for the position since it was reposted. The committee for the search met March 27 and reviewed the candidates’ applications.

A decision was made to continue monitoring the need for additional office help until an executive director is hired.

The HAMC Kids Next Door Daycare subsidy request was reviewed. A discussion was held about the financial figures that were presented. It was determined to conduct further review.

Student loan recipients had their reimbursements paid directly to their student loan accounts this month. One more Student Loan Request was received from an applicant. That request was approved.

In an effort to make walking and biking easier, safer, and more fun, the North Dakota Department of Transportation is teaming up with the Rugby community to plan, design, install and evaluate demonstration projects in 2018, referred to as ‘ND moves: active transportation and transit plan.’ Rugby was one of eight communities named in the selection process for assistance in beautifying the downtown area.

Daunne Heilman reported on the ND moves program. Heilman said the improvements will be a project to improve some type of street enhancements, perhaps new crosswalks downtown. The project is early in its inception, and she said she has a great crew who will help her put together a plan. This concept is not new in North Dakota. Bismarck and Fargo have both used demo projects to test new bike way designs and gather feedback from community members. The plans for Rugby will be developed in a community workshop, to be announced, spring of 2018. Implementation will be summer of 2018 with an evaluation in the fall. More information and materials can be found on the JDA web site. Heilman will be coordinating this effort.

A discussion was held on having a board clarification of powers of the executive board. Johnson said the board will put together a document to discuss and clarify efficiencies and asked for assistance from the prior executive director. Johnson said this will help in the transition for the new director when one is hired.

The JDA board has received notification that the EDND conference will be held in Jamestown, June 19-21, 2018 at the Gladstone Inn & Suites. The JDA will pay for members to attend, and registration opens in April. Also the 2018 Statewide Housing Conference is April 25-26 in Bismarck.

The next regular meeting of the JDA will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018 in the JDA offices in Rugby.
