HAMC combatting financial challenges

By Staff | Jan 19, 2018

The Heart of America Medical Center is taking steps to combat financial challenges.

HAMC has been experiencing financial challenges for over two decades, however the hospital said the challenges have reached a critical point recently.

A total of 13 positions have been restructured as of Wednesday. Other steps the hospital has taken to combat the challenges include putting in place a spending freeze on capital expenditures ; and 5 percent decreases in pay for employees earning more than $25 per hour.

HAMC CEO Patrick Branco said a large number of providers at the hospital have taken voluntary pay cuts.

“I’m very impressed with their commitment,” said Branco.

The hospital plans to get its organization to the “right size” for current and future operations, be fiscally conservative and preserve as many jobs as possible while continuing to provide patient care services. The hospital estimates it has preserved 97 percent of its current staff.

HAMC provides medical services to over 13,000 people within a 50-mile radius of Rugby.
