Ancestry help available at library
The Heart of America Library in Rugby is bringing you free information about your heritage. On Jan. 11, the library held its first informal training session that was free to the public.
Genealogy is the study and tracing of lines of descent or development of family heritage. The HOA Library is training local residents on how to locate and save this information. Genealogy or family history is of interest to many. If you would like to explore your family’s history, the library offers this asset and will assist you in getting started, even if you missed the class.
The free HOA library version has all the same data resources as the version that must be paid for to use at home on the internet.
Vicki Hoffart, director of the Library, discussed how to use the library’s genealogy system at the first event, Jan. 11.
“If somebody did not make Thursday’s training, I would be happy to help them anytime they want to stop by the library,” Hoffart said. “The system is here for them to use. They can find out if they are really interested enough to pay for a subscription at home to do research.”
One attendee laughed and said, “This is really fun, and you find out all kinds of answers for questions about your family, and maybe some you didn’t even want to know!”
Children and teens are encouraged to participate also. “I’d be glad to work with the them,” Vicki said.
The system is available anytime the library is open either on their three free computers or Wi-Fi is available for those that want to bring their laptops.
Vicki also added that they still need volunteers to help with the reading program. Contact her at the library for information.
The next Thursday class will be Introduction to Facebook, on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018.
