School board approves sub teacher policy first reading

By Staff | Nov 17, 2017

In a regular meeting Tuesday morning the Rugby Public School District Board of Education approved the first reading of proposed changes to the district’s substitute teacher payment policy.

Currently substitute teachers are paid $125 per day. After five continuous days of substituting for the same instructor and the substitute teacher is conducting daily planning, the substitute may be paid the “base amount” paid to regular staff at the principal’s discretion.

The revision to the policy entails that the daily rate would be determined by the base payment from the “current Negotiated Agreement” divided by 183 days.

General fund host request

The board discussed a proposal from First International Bank & Trust to host the district’s general fund.

Bremer Bank currently hosts the general fund.

Superintendent Mike McNeff said that North Star Community Credit Union had sent a quest as well.

McNeff said he and Business Manager Dawn Hauck looked through the proposal, and thought they were “happy with where they we’re at.”

Board member Dustin Hager said he didn’t believe “we need to make that decision” to change fund hosts.

The board voted to approve a motion to keep Bremer Bank as general fund hosts, with Vice President Carlie Johnson abstaining.
