County residents receiving scam calls

By Staff | Nov 10, 2017

Pierce County has seen a recent uptick in residents receiving scam phone calls.

In a recent release the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said it received an increased number of calls in the last two weeks about scam calls.

“I advise, please do not send money or give credit card information over the phone,” said Sheriff Josh Siegler in a statement.

The calls come from numbers cloned to resemble law enforcement agencies’ phone numbers. Of the scams reported they range from callers claiming to be relatives in jail or needing money to pay for fines, or fines from the Internal Revenue Service.

Residents can report phone scams to the state Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division by calling 1-800-472-2600.
