New welcome signs posted
Visitors coming to Rugby from the east and west have been receiving a visual welcome.
Put up in time for the July 4 holiday weekend, two “Welcome to Rugby: Geographical Center of North America” signs are along U.S. Highway 2 east and west of Rugby.
According to Rugby Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Miriah Koenig, I Design designed the signs which feature a miniature version of the Geographical Center monument. The signs were stored in a building owned by Envision until they were ready to be installed. Pete Salwey did the cement and framework, and B&J Excavating helped get the signs on cement pads.
“There was a lot of thought and a lot of people who helped make the signs possible,” Koenig said. “I think [they] look awesome!”
The process for getting the signs in place began with former director Shelley Block and members of the CVB Board. Block said she and the board knew the Geographical Center Monument should be a part of the signs’ design. The board looked at designs in early 2016, and contacted North Dakota Tourism to get “North Dakota Legendary” on both signs.
“Everyone that had a part in getting the signs up and done was so great to work with,” Koenig said. “One of the great things about being from a small town: So many people are willing to help out and it is greatly appreciated!”
