County declares drought emergency, burn ban
As of last week, Pierce County is in a drought emergency.
Pierce County has also put a burn ban in place.
In a special meeting last Thursday, the Board of County Commissioners voted to approve two declarations, one for a burn ban/fire emergency and one for a drought emergency.
Both declarations come as a result of abnormally dry conditions in the area.
The burn ban comes into play when the statewide fire danger index ranges from high to extreme and/or if a red flag warning has been issued for the county until further notice. Persons violating the conditions of the ban could face Class B misdemeanor charges punishable by up to 30 days in jail and up to $1,500 in fines.
Other actions
The board approved a conditional use permit for Border States Paving for a temporary asphalt mixing plant.
