‘It went very well’
This year’s Pierce County Fair ended after four days full of entertaining fair and carnival activities, including rides, food, music and more.
Six teams competed in the Ranch Rodeo, which saw over 200 people in attendance.
The Demolition Derby was also a huge success, with over 500 people in attendance. Nine cars were in one event and seven in another.
The most well-attended paid event was Friday night’s Party in the Dirt with Hairball. Over 1,300 tickets were sold for the thrilling show.
The fair was able to meet its minimum in carnival ride sales. The amount made was higher than last year, even with one less day of the fair, according to Fair Board Secretary Khloe Sobolik, who thought the variety of rides played a big part in that.
“We thought it went very well,” Sobolik said about the success of this year’s fair. “Our goal is to work hard to make it a place where you can take your family, so we try to provide something for everyone. It’s [the people’s] fair, not ours.”
According to Sobolik, this year’s fair would not have been made possible without volunteers who helped with everything from cleaning bathrooms to taking tickets.
Fair Board President Don Jelsing was very happy with this year’s fair, as well. “I thought it was a very good fair,” he said. “I don’t remember one that has gone so smoothly in the past, which tells me that we need to continue on in this direction.”
Jelsing explained that everything was up this year in terms of numbers, both in attendance and profit. “It continues to show that people want their fair. It depends on numbers, and we had great community participation and involvement. We’re very appreciative of that. We’re very pleased on the Fair Board.”
The board is currently in the post-fair clean up stage, so it has yet to formally meet to discuss the success of this year’s fair and begin planning for next year.
There is, however, a survey on the fair’s Facebook page, which allows for feedback on expectations for next year’s fair.
