Inez Thorstenson turns 105 years old
It is said that age is just a number but in the case of Inez Thorstenson, that represents a life full of happiness and love.
On June 18th, Thorstenson, a Heart of America Care Center resident and once a HAMC business office staff member, turned 105 years old. She celebrated with her family and friends, enjoyed bright cheerful decorations, flowers, cake and special treats.
Thorstenson, who has spent her entire life in Rugby was the sixth of seven children. As she fondly recalls, “I grew up here, and as a kid I liked playing baseball with my siblings. They always used to say, look at her catch that ball. We would play ball in the pastures and used cow patties as bases. I remember going to church and Sunday school as a young girl and having to study those lessons. I remember helping mother tie blankets, if you wanted to stay warm you tied blankets then I would help make lefse on the cook-stove with a stick.”
She attributes her long life to working hard, staying active and keeping up with her growing family.
Thorstenson was born in 1912, William Howard Taft was president, the British ocean-liner, Titanic sinks on its maiden voyage, the Boston Red Socks defeat the New York Giants in the World Series and women wouldn’t gain the right to vote until 1920. Since that time, there have been 19 presidents and 7 American Wars.
