Traffic incident results in medical treatment for driver

By Staff | May 26, 2017

A sign and the N.D. Highway 3 underpass were struck in a traffic incident last week.

Last Friday evening, a Rugby police officer responded to a report of a vehicle being driven erratically near north Envision. The officer located the vehicle in question, driven by a 41-year-old woman, turning onto 1st St NW. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle; however it drove off the roadway and struck a traffic sign. The vehicle drove through the sign and continued south on Hwy 3. The officer engaged in a pursuit and the vehicle continued to drive erratically, going off the road and almost striking the fence at the underpass before crossing the centerline and striking the underpass on the north side.

Upon coming to a stop the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody, when it was learned the driver was undergoing a medical emergency.

The driver and a female passenger were uninjured, though Rugby Ambulance was called to treat the driver’s condition.

Other agencies assisting in the incident were the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office and the Rugby Fire Department.
