Creations Auction coming soon

By Staff | Feb 10, 2017

The Good Samaritan Health Services Foundation Annual Creations Auction and Dinner will be held Thursday, February 16 at the Rugby Eagles Club.

This annual fundraising event is designated to off-set operating expenses of the Hospice program at Heart of America Medical Center, according to a recent letter sent out by GSHS Foundation Coordinator Kelsey Nelson and Hospice Director Becky Hershey.

“It seems that because our Hospice program is growing each year, the auction has been growing, as well,” Nelson said. “This auction really helps us to run that program.”

The auction will begin at 5 p.m., with a Chinese Raffle. Participants can purchase raffle tickets and bid on available prizes.

Dinner begins at 6:30. Tickets for the dinner were $30 and have been sold out. 230 dinner guests are expected. Dinner choices are prime rib or shrimp scampi. Wine, hors d’oeuvres and dessert will also be available before and after dinner.

A dinner ticket is not necessary to attend the auction. “People can still participate in the auction without a dinner ticket. Anyone can come out and look through the donations and bid,” Nelson said.

After dinner, there will be a Live Auction. First International Bank and Trust has donated a large paddleboard to the auction. Guns and homemade quilts are other items for auction.

“That’s what this auction is about, it started off as things [people] create. That’s what people came to know it by, homemade donations,” Nelson said.

For the grand prize during the Live Auction, Merchants Bank employees have made a handmade quilt. Anyone who purchased a dinner ticket is eligible to win this special item.

There will be a guest speaker during the auction, who is yet to be determined. Hospice is still in the process of lining someone up, but hopes to have a few family members of Hospice patients speak, as well as a Hospice patient over video.

Nelson would like to send a huge thank you to those who help make the auction a success. “We have an awesome committee that has been meeting once a week since the beginning of January,” Nelson said. “The Hospice team helps that night, as well as the Foundation board members and the hospital board members. We couldn’t do it without them.”

HAMC is really excited about this year’s auction. According to Nelson, there has been an ongoing staff challenge. Each department is competing to see who gets the most tickets or bids in its basket. Whichever department’s basket wins, HAMC will send a $200 donation to Hospice in that department’s name.

For those still wanting to donate items for auction, Nelson is requesting them to be donated by the end of the day on Monday, February 13. To make a donation, contact Nelson at 776.5455 ext. 2149.
