City of Rugby declares snow emergency

By Staff | Jan 6, 2017

In a special meeting last week, the Rugby City Council voted unanimously to declare a snow emergency in the city.

The council also discussed snow removal options, including hiring outside contractors. Rugby Mayor Arland Geiszler said he contacted Doug Schneider and Ward 1 Councilman Neil Lotvedt contacted Steve Jacobson for rates. Geiszler also said the city has a snowblower, that is currently on consignment at Northern Equipment. Lotvedt said the lease for the blower is anywhere from $75 to $80 per hour.

Lotvedt said that if more winter storms come up, keeping emergency routes clear would take priority.

“There’s going to be overtime,” Lotvedt said of city employees involved in snow removal efforts.

The council voted to give the city’s Public Works committee to hire outside contractors, if needed.

Other actions

– The council approved year-end budget transfers and amendments.

– The council approved a motion to pay Phyllis Johnson her current wage for her help during the deputy auditor transition.
