209 Paintings

Annie Bachmeier stands near her favorite painting.

The walls of a new store in Rugby are lined with intricate designs, from quotes to cactus depictions.

And there is one person responsible for it.

Annie Bachmeier, RHS Senior, started taking art classes last year. When 209’s owner, Randi Heisler, needed an art student to decorate her new store space, she asked RHS art teacher, Stephanie Skeen for suggestions.

“I did the best I could at my work, and I think that showed,” Bachmeier said. “My art teacher recommended me for the job, along with my dad’s boss, Dawn.”

Art had always been a hobby for Bachmeier, who loved to draw growing up. In her freshman and sophomore years, she helped design and paint sets in theater.

Now, Bachmeier wants to take her hobby and turn it into a career. “I plan on going to college for Art Education, with a focus on drawing and painting,” she said. “I like to teach people, and I like art, so why not put the two together?”

As for her paintings in 209, Bachmeier said her job was easy. Heisler would give Bachmeier references, whether it was to paint designs that were cute and girly, a certain font, etc. “She always had an idea of what she wanted, and I adapted it to the wall,” Bachmeier said. “My favorite part was the learning process. I learned skills, tips and tricks that helped me both [at 209] and in my other works. It made my job easier.”

Bachmeier’s paintings inside 209 lend the space a chic, trendy vibe. With all that 209 offers to customers, the paintings allow for the space to change inventory and events, yet have an overall theme.

209 is open for retail one week per month, with inventory changing. The month of December focused on holiday gifts and dcor. Classes and events are also offered each month. Past events have included Cork and Canvas night, Pinterest project night, Lego builds, and kids science classes. Upcoming events include jewelry making, Moscow Mule Mixology class, yoga, scrapbooking, and more.

The space is also available to rent.
