Little Library opens at Little Flower
Little Flower Catholic School unveiled its new “Little Library” Eager Readers Exchange program on Friday, September 30.
The library, a wooden structure located outside of the front entrance of the school, opens to two shelves full of books. The top shelf is for adult books, and the bottom shelf is for children’s books.
The grand opening started with Father Paulraj, associate pastor of Little Flower, blessing the library structure. Then, Sister Jean Louise Schafer gave a short thank you speech and cut the ribbon.
Sister Jean thanked Father Tom, who drew up the floor plan for the library; Mr. Friddle’s class, who made the signs to go on the library; Mr. Volk, who erected the structure; Sr. Mary Ruth, who took pictures at the unveiling; and the teachers and staff of Little Flower, who brought the baked goods and snacks for the day.
“I also give thanks to the Almighty God, for giving us a brain and the ability to read,” Sr. Jean said.
The little library is open to the public. All those who wish to take part in the program are welcome. There are only two rules, according to Sr. Jean bring a book and take a book.
“So, it’s like a sharing book thing?” one of the students asked at the unveiling.
Sr. Jean had the idea to start the little library after reading about others of its kind around the world. “I have wanted to do this for a long time,” she said.
The event was complete with snacks, refreshments and games. The students received coupons to take a book out of the little library on that day.
“The best part is seeing them so excited about their books,” Sr. Mary Ruth said.
