Ashley Berg/PCT Debbie Pinski was one of the number of grandparents that took part in grandparents day at Ely. Pinski is pictured with granddaughter Cassidy Pinski.

Ely Elementary celebrated Grandparents Recognition Day on Tuesday, October 4 and Wednesday, October 5.

The first day saw the grandparents of students with last names A-L, and the second day was set for the grandparents of students with last names M-Z.

Grandparents observed classroom activities, ate lunch with their grandchildren and went outside for recess.

[The day] has been interesting, so far,” Sylvia Heidlebaugh, grandmother to sixth grader Mykell Heidlebaugh, said. “I lost my meal ticket, so I had to tell the class that. They thought that was funny.”

Heidlebaugh said that the 6th grade grandparents watched the class work on math problems. The class also performed a play for their grandparents.

Marilyn Sattler, grandmother to sixth grader Logan Harner, also had a good time on her last Grandparents Day.

It’s going good. [My favorite part] is sitting in the classroom with him, seeing what he’s working on. It’s my last year, so I’m glad I get to be here,” she said.
