Former Rugby man receives national Amtrak recognition
Shawn Klimpel was born and raised in Rugby and lived here until 1985 when his parents Dennis and Karen Klimpel moved to Ray, North Dakota, who now live in Minot.
As a young boy he became fascinated with trains and his life goal was to work on an Amtrak passenger train. As the conductor, he frequently passes through Rugby on the Empire Builder in addition to his work on other sections of the route further east. Mr. Klimpel was presented with the Living Our Values Award at a ceremony at Amtrak headquarters in Washington, D.C. in late September. He was one of three in the nation to receive this recognition for service to the railroad.
