Concert season to kick off Sept. 27

By Staff | Sep 2, 2016

Jenn Bastic is one of several acts in this year's Heart of America Concert Series.

The 41st Heart of America Concert Series kicks off this month, starting on Tuesday, September 27.

There are 11 artists this year, including Four Celtic Voices, Barbary Coast Band, Seraph Brass, Piano Conversations, A Band Called Honalee, America’s Roots of Pop, Twin Fiddle Express, Fir, Jenn Bastic, Wylie & The Wild West, and New Odyssey.

The concerts will be held in Rugby, Bottineau and Devil’s Lake.

Tilman Hovland is the only remaining original concert series board member. “There were four music teachers in the school here, and we had considered the fact and had talked to several people in the community [about it]. They asked us, ‘Well, why can’t we do something like this?'” Hovland said.

The series books artists from a company out of Minnesota called Allied Concert Services. It is supported, in part, by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.

“When we first started out, people were a little bit skeptical about the caliber of performances,” Hovland said. “But every one of them, as far as I’m concerned, has been top notch. Let’s put it this way, we have a little over 300 seats in the auditorium, and it’s a rare occasion if we’re not full for the performance.”

The first concert in the series will be Four Celtic Voices and will take place in Bottineau. The first concert to take place in Rugby will be held on October 20.

All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.

One ticket allows admission into all concerts. A single adult ticket costs $40, a student ticket costs $5, and a family ticket costs $80.

Tickets are on sale now.
