Legacy run for education

By Staff | Jul 15, 2016

The American Legion Riders are having a two-day Legacy Run next weekend and will be stopping in Rugby on Saturday, July 23 between 2-3 p.m.

The run will start in Dickinson, and motorcycle riders will pass through Northwest and Central North Dakota with stops including Williston, Minot, Rugby, Carrington, Devil’s Lake and Jamestown.

This is the first year that the Dickinson post of the American Legion, Post Three, will be having a Legacy Run.

The purpose of the run is to collect money and donations to provide scholarships and college funding for military veterans.

“It’s just something to promote the legion riders and the American Legion, and to raise money for the scholarships,” Jerry Mayer, Secretary of the Dickinson post, said.

Riders are welcome to join at every post, and will be picked up along the route. Anywhere from 20-50 motorcyclists are expected to participate in the run. “We’re just going to see what happens,” Mayer said.

Rugby’s American Legion Post 23 will be having an Open House at Memorial Hall on the 23rd to welcome and present a donation to the riders. Refreshments will be open to the public, and those who want to join the riders are also welcome to start from this post.

“It’s something that we want to support and open to the public,” Sheila Ostrem, Treasurer of the Rugby post, said. “It’s something for people who want to show their Americanism and patriotic spirits.”

If you want to join the riders, call Jerry Mayer at 290-6730 or come to the Open House next Saturday.
