Last week, the N.D. Highway Patrol and the Benson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a train/pedestrian crash in Leeds. The report was made when employees of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad saw what they believed to be a body on the tracks.

Responding officers discovered 55-year-old Scott Craig Nelson, Leeds, dead on the railroad tracks from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The N.D. Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Benson County Coroner also responded to the scene to investigate the death.
