Farm Rescue assists Myglands

By Staff | May 13, 2016

Ashley Berg/PCT Farm Rescue seeded Mike Mygland’s crop just northeast of Rugby.

Mike Mygland is no stranger to hard work and long hours as a farmer and rancher.

But there’s more on his mind than getting crops planted.

Mike and his wife, Robyn, have been in Colorado with their son, Bennie, who survived a car crash that left him with substantial injuries to his spine.

Luckily enough with the help from Coleen Stutrud to get the paper work started, Farm Rescue has been in Myglands’ field this week planting soybeans and canola. Farm Rescue is a volunteer program to help farmers in a crisis on hard times and can’t take care of their fields.

Helping out the Myglands from Farm Rescue are Mark Olson, of Binford; Clay Robertson, of Tennessee; and Mark Baumgarten, of Iowa, formerly of North Dakota.

Olson said Farm Rescue brought him back into farming.

“I just happened to see it (Farm Rescue) on the internet and I was retiring from farming and thought it might be something I’d be intersted in doing,” said Olson. “I applied, and four years later I’m still at it.”

Mike stated that after the application process he came up with the varieties of seed he wanted to be planted. He provided the seed, fertilizer and fuel for the crops to be planted. Farm Rescue equipment and volunteers showed up and worked until it was done. Mike said that to hire something like this out would be expensive.

“After 36 years of working for John Deere, I can pay back,” stated Baumgarten. “It’s about having a farming passion and giving back. Everyone I’ve worked with, they become your friends some your best friends.”

With planting taken care of, Mike doesn’t have to worry about his crops and can focus on his family.
