By Staff | Apr 22, 2016

At a special meeting Tuesday morning, the Pierce County Commission opened and awarded bids for upcoming road projects.

At just over $1.34 million, Knife River Materials was the lowest bidder for the three projects. The board learned that the biggest savings for the projects would be $130,000 less for mobilization costs, $170,000 less on oil for asphalt and $60,000 less for the seal coat.

Bids were held for milling, blended base and hot bituminous paving and seal coat for three projects: from Highway 2 on Rugby’s east side and north 1.3 miles; from Balta and east two miles to Highway 3; and from Highway 3 west of Selz and east three miles. Work on the projects have a July 15, 2017 completion date.

Hardrives, Inc. was the second lowest bidder at nearly $1.46 million. Other bidders included Strata Corporation (about $1.5 million) and Mayo Construction (over$1.77 million).

The board reviewed a bid proposal for the FEMA alternate route project in Hillside Township.
