For The Love of Snow
On Jan. 3, the Northern Lights Trail Blazers hosted their annual fun run and landowner appreciation supper. There were about a hundred registered riders that took part in the fundraiser. Although the Trail Blazers receive funding from Snowmobile North Dakota, it does not cover all the costs incurred to maintain their trail system (about 115 miles). The Trail Blazers also host an annual supper in conjunction with the fun run and give a free appreciation meal to the Landowners (about 40 attended), whose land the trail blazers obtain leases (through Snowmobile North Dakota) to create their trail system. Without the land owners cooperation, all they would have is trails in the ditch.
Tonia Dosch stated, “We have had many comments from people all over the state over the years on how nice our trails are and that there is minimal ditch riding.”
The Trail Blazers was awarded the bid to host the 2017 State Run. Tentative date is set for the first weekend in February 2017. The club will be busy planning the next twelve months. They hosted the State Run in 2011 with over 300 registered.
This year marks the 12th Annual All Ladies Run, The Snowbunny Run hosted by the Northern Lights Trail Blazers Feb 27th. All ladies of all riding levels are invited to participate.
The Northern Lights Trail Blazers was established in 1998. They are always welcoming new members. If someone would like to join contact President Cory Heilman or Secretary Randy Knain. Meetings are the fourth Monday of the month, usually at the Eagles (occasionally at a warming house or different location).
