HAMC Auxiliary’s Tree of Giving Continues to Bear Fruit
The Heart of America Medical Center (HAMC) Auxiliary celebrated its 23nd annual Tree of Giving celebration with a tree-lighting ceremony Monday afternoon in front of the HAMC. This glorious tradition started in 1992, “The hospital was in need of more Lifelines because the needs of the community was growing rapidly and the machines were quite costly. The CEO at the time approached the Auxiliary and from there the Board came up with the idea for the Tree of Giving”, shared Linda Kay Duchscher, who is the Community Relations & Development Director of HAMC
The mission statement for the Tree of Giving campaign was specifically developed for “caring and sharing for healthcare” and the money raised over the years has gone towards a variety of needed and important initiatives such as: Heart of America Medical Center, Heart of America Hospice, Long Term Care, Haaland Estates and Heart of America Johnson Clinics.
At this year’s event Laurie Odden was the host speaker on behalf of the HAMC Auxiliary. She, along with Marge Heilman and Susan Anderson, read the names that the bulbs on the tree represent in the memorial. State Representative Jon Nelson spoke at the ceremony thanking everyone for their continued support of the Auxiliary and HAMC in general; Aimee Henning also lent to the ceremony by singing hymns for the service.

“Our thoughts were it would be something that would only happen during the Christmas Season, but after the season people kept giving and it just keeps growing year after year. Because of the support of Rugby and the surrounds communities we were able to add Hospice for needed supplies. In the past 23 years we have given 60 wheel chairs to the Care Center, helped with the remodel of the dining rooms, remodel of the comfort care room and more. This year from funds from the Tree of Giving we were able to give just under $10,000.00 for the remodel of the Acute Care Waiting room,” shared Duchscher.
