California Man Injured in Crash
A California man was injured last week in a one-vehicle crash near Rolette and is facing criminal charges.
Venjamin Meleca, 22, Carmichael, Calif., was traveling westbound on Highway 66 from Rolette to a beehive site. He crossed the eastbound lane and entered the south ditch. His vehicle, a 2007 Dodge 3500, then struck a field approach, becoming airborne. It landed on its wheels, facing northwest.
Meleca was transported to the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, and was later airlifted to Trinity Hospital in Minot. He has been charged with driving while license is suspended, a class B misdemeanor.
The vehicle was towed from the scene as was listed as totaled.
The Rolette County Sheriff’s Department, Rolette Fire Department and the North Dakota Highway Patrol responded to the crash.
