A former Rugby High School agriculture instructor won high honors from the N.D. Association of Agricultural Educators.

At the association’s annual banquet in Bismarck earlier this month, Vannett received the Gold Division Teacher of Teachers award. The award is given to educators who’ve had five or more former high school students obtain a degree in ag education and teach in the state.

According to Vannett, Monica (Pritchett) Goven, who teaches at Glen Ullin High School, was his eighth student to do so.

“It’s kind of exciting,” Vannett said, “seeing students you had going on to teach ag.”

After 18 years of teaching in Rugby, Vannett is currently teaching at Munich High School.

Another former RHS ag instructor, Jason Mongeon, who teaches in Towner, won a silver award. That award is for teachers who’ve had three to four students go on to teach ag.

Another category for awards is bronze, or one to two students.

The awards are sponsored by the CHS Foundation.
