By Staff | Aug 7, 2015

Abagail Volk, president of the Rugby FFA Chapter, attended the North Dakota FFA Chapter President’s Conference, held at the Chieftain Convention Center in Carrington, July 7-8. The annual conference was sponsored by the North Dakota FFA Foundation, the North Dakota FFA Alumni Association and the Carrington FFA Alumni Affiliate.

Keynote presenters of the conference included Amber Haugland, past N.D. State FFA President and past Central Region Vice-President of the National FFA Organization. She is presently living in northwestern North Dakota. Vince Pellegri, a native of California and a past California State FFA Officer, was a co-presenter. He is presently attending Chico State University, majoring in agriculture education.

“Invitation Only” was the theme for the conference, as the recently elected chapter presidents began planning for a new school/FFA year. Topics discussed at the conference included president’s duties, expectations, and responsibilities; creating productive executive committee meetings; leadership through service; goal setting and planning chapter activities; effective meeting operations; motivation techniques and recruitment; connections, impressions, and impact; creating partnerships with community leaders; communications and chapter activities-exchange of ideas. Conference participants also received presentations from the N.D. FFA Foundation and the N.D. FFA Alumni Association. The conference is aimed at training FFA Chapter Presidents to perform their duties, and in turn train their fellow officers to have a successful FFA year through goal setting, servant leadership, and making community connections.

The North Dakota FFA Association is a State Association of the National FFA Organization. The N.D. FFA Association has approximately 4700 members in 79 agricultural education programs across the state. The mission of the National FFA Organization is: “FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.”
