Lyric Theater Gets New Look by Labor of Love

Volunteers help give the Lyric a face-lift

Labor of Love

On Tuesday, the Lyric Theatre was shown how much they are loved in the community when over 20 volunteers gathered to start the face-lift of their beloved theatre. They removed the old chairs, and started the process to repair, clean and install the new theatre chairs they received from a theatre in Fargo. One of the unsung heroes is Dallas Hager from Rugby Manufacturing, who retrofitted the donated chairs so they would properly fit the angled Lyric floor.

One of the more daunting tasks still ahead is to repair, clean and then paint the floors as well as paint the lower level of the walls. The final step will be to install the new chairs with handicap-accessible areas. The theatre will be reopen on Aug. 14 with the movie “Antman”.

In addition to Hager, this project was spearheaded by Steve Mueller and Dave Bednarz, and was done with the help of uncounted volunteers who came together as a community to keep this treasure an important part of Rugby.

If you would like to volunteer to help in this transformation of the Lyric, especially the installing of chairs, please contact Mueller at 776-6950. If you would like to volunteer to help in the concessions for the movie please contact Holly Niemi at 776-5013 or 208-0654 or Shelley Block from the Chamber at 776-5846.
