Intelligency, Beauty and Talent, Oh My
The fourth annual Rugby Pageant is coming up on Saturday, August 15, 2015. It will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the Rugby High School Auditorium. It is open to the public, and tickets can be purchased at the door. Admission is only $6 for adults and $4 for students, 5 and under are free. All profits go back into the scholarship fund. It will be an afternoon full of entertainment featuring some local contestants and contestants from across the state. So far, there are 19 contestants participating in the pageant. Applications are still open until August 10th.
The purpose and commitment of the Rugby Preliminary Scholarship Pageant is to recognize potential, reward achievement and promote young girls and women in our community by providing opportunities to develop interview and communication skills, enhance performance capability, encourage a healthy life style, and build self-esteem and self-confidence through competition. In addition, it provides college savings bonds and scholarship dollars to encourage the young girls and women in our community to continue their education in preparation for their future.
This year, there are 10 contestants in the Princess Program, five of whom are from the Rugby area. This age group is for girls ages 5-12. The Princesses will all have the opportunity to participate in a private interview, onstage talent, sportswear and party dress. All of the Princesses taking part in the pageant will receive a crown and be able to go onto the state pageant. This is a great way for the young girls to practice their skills on stage and see what the pageant is all about. They also get to have fun, meet new girls from around the state and meet great role models like our local and state titleholders.
There are four contestants competing in the Outstanding Teen age group, and one of them is from the Rugby area. This group is for the girls 13 years old 11th grade. They will compete in private interview, onstage talent, sportswear, evening wear and onstage question. There will be two winners crowned; each will receive a $50 gift card to purchase a $100 college savings bond and will move on to compete at the Miss North Dakota’s Outstanding Teen State pageant in Williston next June. There they will have the chance to win thousands more in scholarship money.
Five contestants will be competing in the Miss age group. The girls in this group are from 12th grade through age 24. They will participate in a 10-minute private interview, an onstage talent, lifestyle and fitness, evening wear and onstage question. At the Rugby Pageant, there will be two titles awarded in the Miss age division. These title winners will move on to compete at the Miss North Dakota pageant in June 2015 in Williston! With the help of community donations and the Knight for a Princess fundraiser this spring, two scholarships in the amount of $500 will be awarded to the two contestants crowned Miss Rugby and Miss Geographic Center with the change to win thousands more at the state level.
The pageant will be judged by a panel of five judges from our local area and from across the state. The evening will also include great guest entertainment from Miss North Dakota 2015, Delanie Wiedrich. She was a Burning Hills Singer at the Medora Musical last summer, so you do not want to miss her fabulous performance. We will also have our last year’s local title holders provide entertainment. Lexi Wyman, who since being crowned Miss Geographic Center has released an album, will be performing some of her original music. We will also have our last year’s Teen winners, Lauryn Hinkley and Kaycee Froysland, grace the stage. The audience will also get to choose the People’s Choice winner! Come on out and enjoy the evening and help support our local talent. It will be an exciting night you don’t want to miss!
