High Winds Blow Through Rugby

By Staff | Jul 31, 2015

Sirens blared and winds whipped across Rugby on Tuesday, stretching into the evening. The winds caused power outages with lines down, trees were uprooted and branches were strewn across the landscape. According to the National Weather Service there were wind gusts of over 50 mph in the Pierce County area.

The power outages were also the root cause of Rugby’s Lift Station going down due to mechanical and electrical failures. This caused the city to ask residents to limit sewer usage until the lift station service has been restored. The city put temporary pumps in place, but they were not able to handle the full capacity of the lift station. As of Wednesday night, the city was able to apply a temporary fix to the lift station, giving the city full usage of water and sewage until the permanent replacement parts arrive.
