Sheriff Makes Budget Requests

By Staff | Jul 23, 2015

Pierce County Sheriff Josh Siegler met with the Board of County Commissioners in a special session Tuesday to discuss two items for next year’s budget.

Siegler requested a new vehicle to replace Sheriff’s Deputy Taylor Schiller’s. The board approved putting the new vehicle request on the county’s budget for Fiscal Year 2016. Siegler also noted that the tires on Schiller’s current vehicle will need to be replaced in the interim.

Siegler also inquired as to whether it would be feasible to hire another dispatcher at the Law Enforcement Center, one who could also be cross-trained to work as a deputy and could also work in the Heart of America Correctional & Treatment Center. District 2 Commissioner Mike Christenson asked how would wages and benefits work if the board were to go that route. Siegler said the employee would work full-time and receive benefits, but hours would be divided as needed between dispatch, law enforcement and the jail.

Siegler informed the board that the wait time on the new vehicle for the Sheriff’s Department may increase, as M.J. McGuire Company ordered a 2016 pickup instead of the 2015 in the June 19 bid; there is a loose wire on the county’s repeater tower that will need to be fixed; and that he is working with Rugby Police Chief John Rose on coming up with a counter-offer for Brad Odden, of Brad’s Towing, on towing vehicles for the city and county.

District 3 Commissioner Rick Larson informed Siegler that a space in the old fire hall may be available for impounded vehicles.

The board approved a request from Cali Richardson to rent the Memorial Hall on Thursdays from the end of August to May for Just For Kix dance lessons.

The board discussed land owned by Gullicksons in Torgerson Township. The land is temporarily flooded during periods of heavy rain fall with water coming from the city of Rugby. Options discussed included digging out an approach and deepening the nearby ditch.
