It Just Comes Naturally
There was a tractor driving competition on July 9th at Rugby Lumber which consisted of driving a tractor and trailer through a course that has six inches of room on each side of the tractor and trailer for advanced, and nine inches on each side for intermediate. The students started out with backing the tractor and trailer through the length of the course then continuing to drive through course twice, and finishing up with backing the tractor up into a spot on the course. The drivers were judged on their safety of operation, as well as how straight and fast they went through the course. The students also took a written test consisting of safety and general tractor knowledge. The students lastly completed a practicum by answering ten questions about the tractor. Five of those questions were answered by walking around the tractor and examining it, and the remaining five were found by looking through the operator’s manual.
Devin Volk, Cade Heilman, Alex Hoffert, and Isaac Volk were the competitors from Rugby, and all four advanced to the state competition on Friday July 17th at 8:00 a.m. in Minot. Devin and Cade moved on in the Advanced competition, and Isaac and Alex moved on in the Intermediate competition.
