TIME IS RUNNING OUT

JT?Pelt/PCT Dianne Montonye and Dale G. Niewoehner reviewing applications.

Remember this. Hold on to this. There is one way to make things better and that is the desire to help others. This is the one thing that can be done that has eternal meaning. This is why the Rugby Community Endowment Fund was created and why it has thrived all these years. They work, to help others make a difference. Now they need you, to help them, help you and time is running out.

The Rugby Community Endowment Fund (RCEF) is looking to distribute approximately $16,000.00 this year in grants to qualified organizations with worthwhile projects that will benefit the community of Rugby.

To be considered a qualified, the institution has to be a 501-3c non-profit organization, a school or a municipality. The monies that are being requested by the organization should be used for the general well being of the people of rugby and the surrounding community.

The RCEF was established in the early eighties. This charitable institution provides a method of receiving funds/donations to benefit projects for non-profits, schools and municipalities in the Rugby area. The fund is affiliated with the North Dakota Community Foundation, which is a nonprofit tax-exempt corporation under IRS code 501(c)(3) and North Dakota Law

The stewards of the RCEF are made up of an advisory committee of well-established citizens in Rugby. Galen J. Mack, Dianne Montonye, Wes Black, Theone “Toni” Stevenson, Dale G. Niewoehner, and Robert Wilmot all sit on this committee.

Last year over $13,500.00 was awarded to seven organizations totaling. The recipients and amounts of the grants were: $5,000 to Good Samaritan Health Services Foundation; $2,000 to Tri-County Senior Meals; $1,500 to Geographical Center Historical Society; $1,500 to Rugby Public Schools Music Department; $1,500 to Village Arts; $1,200 Rugby Volunteer Fire Department; and $800 to Pierce County Food Pantry.

You can also do your part to help keep the Rugby Community Endowment Fund going strong by making donations to them. According to advisory board member Galen J. Mack the RCEF has a goal for the fund to reach one million dollars. The RCEF can achieve this goal through donations and the continued success of managing the fund.

At this time the Bremer Foundation matches donations made to the Rugby Endowment Fund dollar-for-dollar of donations that exceed $10,000, with a bonus of $5,000 if the fund reaches $25,000 in donations before the end of the year. The maximum match depends upon the amount of donations to other community funds. The intention of RFE is to give 4% of the balance every year to deserving and qualifying recipients. With the fund approaching $400,000.00 they are looking to award $16,000.00 of grants this year.

Remember, time is running out! The RCEF is requesting that this year’s applications be submitted by July 27th. Applications can be downloaded from www.NDCF.Net or you can pick them up at the office of Galen J. Mack. The office is located at 120 2nd St. SE, PO Box 196, Rugby ND 58368. Once application is complete you can drop them off Mr. Mack’s office.

Applications are reviewed and chosen by the advisory committee. The qualified organizations may contact Galen Mack or any of the committee members with questions. Though applicants do not always get the full amount requested, as the fund has grown the awards have often approached or met the requests of the applications.
