The Pierce County Fair’s Photography Contest

By Staff | Jul 9, 2015

The Best of Show winner was Amy Jo Leonard of Rolette.

With the Pierce County Fair’s photo exhibition and contest being led by the ultra-talented Jennifer Zachmeier, it was inevitable that it would be a success. This is Jennifer’s third year heading the contest and she is already looking forward to next year.

The Best of Show winner was Amy Jo Leonard of Rolette, with honorable mentions given to Cheryl Hager (canola field) of Balta and Don Jelsing (bird) of Rugby. Jennifer commented, “All the photos we received were exceptional, but these three photos definitely stood out.”

Winning this competition was no easy feat with over 40 entries. Amy Jo won a $50 cash prize that Jennifer gives each year. Jennifer Zachmeier shared, “This year’s Photo Contest was the best turnout yet. The artistic talent was unbelievable – it was very difficult to pick just one Best of Show -but Amy Jo’s cowboy sunset photo was absolutely stunning!” Jennifer concluded, “I am very excited for next year’s contest because every year it gets bigger and better!”

With Jennifer being a talented successful artist of photography herself, we asked if she would like to share any advice to anyone wanting to take up photography. Jennifer stated,”The best advice I could give anyone who is considering taking up photography would be to do your own thing! Stay true to your style and don’t compare yourself to others.” Jennifer further stated, “Always keep in mind that there is a big difference between taking a picture and creating a picture! Artistic inspiration is all around – once you start chasing great images, you will never see things the same way again!”
