With the help of Theresa from Theresa’s Quilting, and Vicki from Hometown Quilting, Barb Welk continued the tradition of a Quilting competition and display to this year’s Pierce County Fair.

By all accounts it exceeded expectations with over 20 entries on display this year, Entrants that were recognized for their displays are: Lorraine Myers who received the Reserve award; Cindie Haakenson who recognized as Best of the Show; and Orpha Burkhartsmeier who was the popular choice receiving the Viewer’s Choice award.

When Barb Welk was asked about the quilting on display she said, “I want to congratulate everyone who showed their skills. All of the quilts on display were spectacular!”

With their eye on next year and looking to make the quilting exhibition even larger for the Pierce County Fair’s 100th Anniversary, the quilting committee has developed kits to be sold for $5.00. These kits will be part of a Queen Size Quilt. Anyone who participates will be part of history with their names being placed on the back of the quilt. The intentions of the committee are to create a patriotic theme red, white, and blue quilt that once finished will be auctioned off. The proceeds from the auction will be given to the Pierce County Fair so they can make their 100th anniversary truly special. According to Barb Welk the Quilting committee is already making plans for next years Pierce County Fair’s Quilt display. Barbara shared, “We are looking to confining the displays to antique quilts.” She continued, “Which has been determined should be a quilt 25 years old or older, made by the owner, or purchased for the presenter by a family member or friend.” Barbara further stated, “There will be only a “Viewers Choice” award; with no judging.” Barb concluded by saying, “The reasoning behind the changes is as a committee we thought it would be a good fit for the 100th Celebration of the Pierce County Fair.”
