A Rose By Any Other Name

By Staff | Jun 19, 2015

JT Pelt/PCT Rose Hager and her late husband owned and operated the Balta Bar for over 30 years.

With a sparkle in her eye Rose Hager took a stroll down memory lane and was kind enough to take the Pierce County Tribune with her.

Rose, 95 years young, was the owner of the Tavern in Balta for 30 plus years, along with her husband Andy. Andy and Rose were married in 1945 and were married for 64 years until his passing in 2009. Rose and Andy raised 4 children, ran a business together and built a lifetime of memories.

When talking about the Tavern Rose shared, “As with any business, running a bar had its great moments as well as some bad, like putting up with customers that indulged a little more than they should in the spirits they served.” Mostly though, Rose had fond memories of her times at the Balta Bar. Rose shared It was a bar for all seasons from snowmobilers, to weddings seasons. But, what brought the biggest smiles from this gracious lady were her reflections on the big bands that came to their small town bar and the dances they held. She loved to dance and enjoyed so much the dances they held twice a week at the Bar.

Rose resides at Haaland Estates and just loves all the people there from the residents to the staff. Rose shared, “I love it here and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.” She continued, “They treat you so good and everyone is so nice.”

It is easy to be nice to someone who as sweet and kind as Rose.
