Larry Pleads, ‘Lord Give Me Something’

By Staff | Jun 11, 2015

Submitted Larry and Suzanne Makeeff will sing and give testimony Sunday at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Rugby.

Larry Makeeff was unable to communicate or walk, but what he could do was pray. So what Larry and Suzanne, Larry’s wife, did was pray. The gift that Larry believes Jesus Christ gave him actually was a present to all that come and listen to the Makeeff story and hear the work that Larry sings “Jesus Christ did.”

Larry and Suzanne Makeeff, of Carthage, Mo., are a husband and wife team, singing and sharing an amazing story of God’s grace in their lives.

In an industrial accident in July 1974, when a tie-down mechanism broke loose and snapped back and hit Larry in the face, everything changed. Then things went from bad to worse when complications set in and brain damage followed causing a massive stroke. Larry was left as a shell of the man that he once was. Larry, unable to walk or talk, and was completely paralyzed on the right side of his body. According to his wife Suzanne, and in Larry’s own testament God has brought him around with unbelievable physical blessings. He slowly regained the use of his right leg and was able to stand with crutches and eventually use a cane. For some time Larry’s right arm had little movement and his speech did not return.

“I knew what I wanted to say, but about all I could remember to say was “hi” or “bye”, Larry said.

Frustrated and depressed, his inabilities were taking their toll on the entire family according to the story shared by the Makeeffs. Larry Makeeff said he finally prayed, “Lord, give me something. I haven’t got anything, I can’t walk, and I can’t talk. I just can’t do anything!” What Larry felt the Lord gave him was the ability to tell his story through singing. As Larry says, “This (singing) is what he gave me!”

His deep rich tone, with seemingly limitless volume, sends vibrations around the room. Suzanne, a singer also, joins him in duets and helps him with his testimony when he cannot remember or has trouble finding the right words. He chooses the songs, most of them gospel favorites, of older generations.

You can come and witness their faith in God and hear how the Lord has taken care of them. How determination, inspiration, perspiration, will and the willingness to have undying faith in their Lord who has reached out to answer their prayers and supply their needs. You can hear this remarkable story for yourself Sunday evening June 14th at 6:00 p.m. at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God.
