Odden named February Volunteer of the Month
(The following appeared in the March 21 edition of the Tribune.)
It was Kurek Ashley who said, “The quality of your life will be determined by the quality of your contribution. When you work to improve the lives of others, your life improves automatically.
Laurie Odden, of Rugby, keeps this saying in her office.
Odden was recently named the Rugby Chamber of Commerce’s Volunteer of the Month for February.
“I just like to help people and be involved,” Odden said. “I don’t feel like I do more than anyone else.”
Pierce County residents have seen her involvement with the area Relay for Life chapter, and she is a staff member of the American Cancer Society. Her community involvement goes further. Odden serves on the CVB Board, the Chamber Board of Directors, the Pierce County Salvation Army, the Rugby Ambulance Service, and the Fire Department, Eagles and Heart of America Medical Center auxiliaries.
When her children, Keylee and Kyler, were younger, Laurie was active on the Rugby Gymnastics Board and in the Growing Place Daycare.
“I don’t remember a time that I didn’t volunteer,” Odden said. She got started volunteering with the ambulance service in high school.
