JDA board holds Wednesday meeting

At a Wednesday afternoon meeting, the Rugby Job Development Authority Board learned that another lot on the Chalmers First Addition has been purchased.

The JDA received a deposit on the fourth lot in Block 5. Two buyers previously expressed interest and put down deposits on another lot in the addition.

The board approved erecting “Grow Rugby” billboards on a monthly basis in places that included Rugby, Devils Lake, Minot and Grand Forks.

The board nominated Bonnie Kuehnemund as a potential new board member from a pool of four interested persons. The decision will be left to Mayor Arland Geiszler and the Rugby City Council to approve. Other persons in the pool included Cindy Kuntz, Daunne Heilman and Jeff Miller.

Discussion was held on the possibility of setting up a public forum regarding the housing development, the results of a comprehensive land use survey and other topics. Discussion was also held on what it would take to form a housing authority for the city of Rugby. The board watched a 20-minute video on housing authorities by John Phillips, past president of Beulah Economic Development – who spoke on the subject at the 2014 State Housing Conference. Interim Director SyAnn Graber and Board President Fr. Tom Graner would come up with a later date for the forum.

Graber mentioned that the Rolette and Rugby child care co-op, of which she is a part, would be meeting in Rugby on April 1 in the basement of Merchants Bank; and that she would be speaking at an upcoming scrubs camp.

The board approved the hiring of Kris Thiel for accounting; the treasurers report and the minutes of the January and February board meetings.
