Author to hold book signing at library

By Staff | Mar 6, 2015

An area author is slated to make an appearance at the Heart of America Library next Saturday.

Judy Buchholz Frueh, of Martin, author of “Laughing Solo” and “To Be a Hannah”, will hold a book signing and short talk from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.

Frueh said much of the ideas for her books come from experiences as a foster parent. “Laughing Solo” chronicles how the lives of two children in two seperate homes intertwine, and the emotional ties the parents form with the kids. “To Be a Hannah” centers on an older child who hasn’t bonded with her adoptive parents.

Frueh taught for many years in the Harvey school system, and during that time adopted and raised a group of four siblings. Once they left the nest, Frueh and her husband, David, looked into becoming foster parents; starting first at the county level and then working with PATH in Minot.

Two foster children currently live in their home.

Writing for the Fruehs began when they were involved in a mid-week childrens’ Bible study program, in which they would write skits to help get lessons across. Once they got deeper into their journeys in adoption, Judy said they could see writing as “a tool to make people aware of the needs of children who lacked parental guidance.”

Judy said she is excited to come to Rugby to not just talk about her books, but to deliver a message on the impact foster care can have on the lives of parents and children alike.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to give this message on behalf of hurting children. Foster parenting is not for everyone,”Judy said. “My husband and I may only do foster care for a short season in our lives, but whether we are foster parents or not, there are still children living on our block, attending our schools and churches, or who we know through mere acquaintance, who yearn to be noticed by caring adults. Each of us can be that person for some child.”

Interested persons can attend the signing event, and find out more on the author’s website, judyfrueh.tateauthor.com.
