FFA, Hippology teams compete at Little I
The Rugby FFA chapter recently traveled to Fargo and Kindred to participate and compete in the annual Little I contest held at North Dakota State University and the Kindred annual winter contest. Students competed in livestock judging, agronomy, ag sales, and small animal care. The Livestock team consisting of Devin Volk, Abby Volk, Katherine Filler, and Madison Schmaltz placed 17th out of 87 at NDSU and placed 4th at Kindred. The crop judgers consisted of Kaycee Mahle and Josh Pfeifer who placed 32nd out of 44 as a team. The crop judgers had an addition of McKenzie Johnson when they arrived in Kindred. That team placed 12th out of 31 teams. The Ag sales team which consisted of MyKell Bosch and Sierra Jundt placed 31st out of 48 teams at NDSU. The Small Animal care team also competed and placed 2nd out of 20 teams at NDSU and were the first place overall team at Kindred; the team consisted of Jazlyn Brossart, Matty Koenig, Morgan Oppen, and Katelyn Kuntz. Overall the teams who competed performed very well.

Hippology Team Places 6th
NDSU held their annual Little I event on Friday, February 13th, which included Hippology, Livestock Judging, Ag Sales, Agronomy, and Small Animal Care contests. If you’re superstitious, you wouldn’t even think of competing on a Friday the 13th, but doing so worked out just fine for Pierce County 4-H’s Junior Hippology Team as they earned 6th place out of 23 junior 4-H teams. The team included Kimberlee Leier (daughter of Lee Allen & Rebecca Leier), Mika Guty (daughter of Steve & Kindra Guty), and Joey Wolf (daughter of Lee & Sandra Wolf).
Hippology contests consist of a 50 question written test, identification of 50 horse-related items, a team problem presentation, and horse judging. As a junior team in this contest, the girls were able to work together in all of the challenges. They performed very well for their second year of competition, including earning two perfect scores in the horse judging section.
