Bedding fair held at hospital
Blankets of varying sizes and themes adorned the walls of W.R. Fox Auditorium, on the first floor of the Heart of America Medical Center Tuesday and Wednesday. Tables in the middle of the room were decked out with sheet sets and throws, all of which were being sold for a good cause.
The hospital’s Community Relations & Development Department – a combination of the HAMC Auxiliary and the GSHS Foundation – held a bedding fair, which began Tuesday morning and ended Wednesday afternoon. The auxiliary met their goal of $1,500, which will go toward remodeling the acute care waiting area, which hasn’t been updated since the entire wing was constructed.
“We’re always looking for fundraisers at the hospital,” said Auxiliary President Susan Anderson. “There’s always some project that’s needed.”
For sale at the bedding fair were discount wares exclusively made by JR Comfort, a Fargo-based company that sells bedding mainly to hospitals and other institutions.
“They’re real soft and comfortable. They stand up well, wash well and there’s lots of variety,” Bill Rice, a JR Comfort salesman, said of the items for sale.
Anderson heard of JR Comfort through a local woman who attended a bedding fair at a Bismarck hospital.
“She said it was very good quality merchandise. We’ve been trying to get (JR Comfort) here for two years,” Anderson said.
Community Relations & Development Director Linda Duchscher added: “A lot of people over the past months have been looking forward to this sale.”
Both Anderson and Duchscher said planning for the event was relatively easy.
“Bill brings all the merchandise, and the maintenance crew and volunteers help set up,” Duchscher said.
Anderson said: “The hardest part was getting a date (set up to use the Fox Auditorium).”
JR Comfort does shows at hospitals in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Montana, Wisconsin and Iowa. Their shows are open to the general public as well as hospital employees.
